Hand Sanitizer Provided on the GRT
Krista
One or two bottles of hand sanitizer on each GRT bus would be a great way to stop the spread of germs on campus and in Waterloo as a whole. How many people ride the city bus in a day? ALOT! Imagine how many times one person coughs into their hand, thinks nothing of it, then gets on the bus and holds onto the hand rails/straps. Now say even 50 bus users a day sneeze, cough, touch a germy door handle…then get on the bus. Now you touch it! You get off the bus and then touch your cell phone, you watcard, your back pack, maybe rub your eyes or touch your mouth. All this happens before you have a chance to go wash your hands. No wonder everyone is sick right now. The germs are being spread like crazy just from your bus ride to and from school/home. Its as simple as a few bottles of hand sanitizer available for any one who would like to protect themselves against the germs .

Tuition Fees for CFM and Math/CA
cfm
I know that people who are reading this that aren’t in CFM or Math/CA wouldn’t care, but you should. The tuition fees of CFM and Math/CA are so high from second year and on, it’s near 8 grand for 4 months, that’s just a little less than what we make on our co-op terms, I personally don’t know about Math/CA but for CFM apparently many many people have dropped out of the program, even the girl from the CFM brochure, and most of them switched to CS, which you can take the AFM courses as an elective in upper years, thus don’t make much difference with CFM, of course their tuition fees are way lower in the 3-4 grand area. I, myself is in CFM and have thoughts about switching to CS. So all you guys in different programs will get a lot of us CFMs and Math/CAs in the future.

Coop Fee Pains
pnogas
If you find your own job (ie: not through jobmine) and don’t use CECS you still need to pay the ~$100 coop fee. This should be removed or at least reduced in these cases.

Parking Solutions
nozelgoom
I’ve been reading into parking services at other institutions across Canada and thinking about how we could improve what we have on-campus, let me know what you think and if this all seems reasonable:
1) Selective Parking Passes
Essentially, individuals could purchase a term-pass that is valid only on specific days of the week and different colours on their sticker would be an indicator to Parking Services (so, for example: I could buy a pass only valid M,W,F – so I’d have a pass with Red, Blue and Brown squares)This would increase demand for parking passes (as more people would find it reasonable to passes they can use most efficiently) AND as a result, increase the profits for the University.
2) A Carpool Pass
These types of passes are for different companies in which a pair or more of people co-sign for a single parking pass. They all sign an agreement that they will share the pass and only use said pass on the vehicles signed onto the pass. Here’s an example:

Volunteerism
antonia
My idea isn’t fully formed but I’m hoping that if I put my thought/concern out there than we can work together to come up with some kind of solution. This term, I’m taking a class centered around social innovation. In our first few classes, our professor challenged us to go on the UW website and find resources of places that are trying to make a change or want to have some kind of positive impact on campus or in the community. Our class had such a difficult time finding resources! One of the functions of this site is to be a place where people can share ideas and resources but how can we get people more connected with this site other then posters and advertisements? Ideas anyone?

Summer Camps - Youth Opportunities
JessieBrown
My Waterloo idea stems from working with and seeing the youth summer camps that operate on campus during the summer. I think this is a great resource and if possible maybe we could find a way to use this resource to provide a cap experience to kids that maybe cannot afford it otherwise. My idea is incomplete though because I am not sure how their camp enrollment could be paid for (maybe the University could foot the bill for 10 kids each summer or something, maybe fundraising?), and I’m not sure how the youth that would most benefit from this opportunity could be identified.
